Mallorca is the biggest island in the Balearic Archipelago. It takes up approximately 1% of the national territory, with a registered population of near 800,000 people, except during high season, when the arrival of tourism increases it dramatically.
Temperatures are usually mild all year through, with many sunny days in winter, as well as a bit of snow on maximum heights. Relative humidity, as in many other islands, results in a wind-chill factor that increases in winter and decreases in winter.
Mallorca is known as the island of calm- in it, things take a special rhythm- and a bit of patience! There are two co-official languages: Spanish and Catalan, that’s why many signs have names written in Catalan- when in doubt, do ask people and you’ll see they’re always hospitable and ready to help.
Opening hours: usually from 9:30 to 13:30, and from 17:00 to 20:00. However, most big stores and shopping centers are open from 9:30 to 21:30, even on Sundays and public holidays.
Entertainment: Usually, bars, pubs and discos open almost every day until 3:00 or 4:00, and at weekends, until daybreak. |
