Given the generous variety of dishes and the high quality of local products, no doubt Mallorca’s gastronomy can be considered one of the richest in the world. Some dishes are known internationally, as the sobrassada, a spicy kind of sausage; the ensaimada, a sweet pastry, and Hierbas, a renowned spirits. But there’s much more to discover!
Don’t miss El frito mallorquín (fried lamb and potatoes); las sopas mallorquinas (bread and vegetables); el pa amb oli (a delicious garlic souce to spread on bread); los caracoles (snails); las butifarras o el camaiot (cold metas). There also also the typical Holy Week pies, filled with lamb, fish or peas; raors , a rare and delicious Mediterranean fish- it’s captured with a fish line and only during a very limited period. But there are plenty of other examples....
As to sweet meals, we recommend to taste some of the local specialties, as tarta de gató, cuartos, robiols (usually at Holly Week time, filled with jam, pumpkin filling or custard); Easter eggs and home-made ice-creams.
As you can see, Mallorca is the perfect place for a gastronomic tour. |
